Paraffin Wax Hand Spa
What is it?
Paraffin wax is a white waxy solid that was created in the 1850's and was a marked improvement on its predecessor tallow due to it being a cleaner, more reliable and efficient product. Common uses are candle making, insulation and lubrication and its use as a beauty therapy. The ingredients used in creating paraffin wax are a natural by-product of the oil refining process and are then further refined to remove any remaining oil content. The highest grades of paraffin wax are generally a bluish white in colour, however in the beauty field colours are often added to the product for aesthetic purposes.
In a Paraffin wax hand spa the hands are dipped into the melted wax. The wax starts to melt at around 37°C and should be no hotter than around 51°C, so the temperature is akin to that of a warm bath. The wax coats the hands, feet, legs or other body parts that are dipped into it and cools quickly forming a thin coating. You can re-dip up to 10 times or so and depending on the treatment can be left on for around 20 mins before the coating is removed and discarded.
Please note. If you have your own wax spa you can re-use the wax. Just ensure you wash your hands and feet thoroughly first to avoid contamination of the wax. It is advisable to do a manicure and pedicure before the procedure.
The benefits of a Paraffin Wax Hand Spa...
The benefits of paraffin wax hand and foot treatments are numerous. They range from moisturising to heat therapy and as a treatment for arthritis, it brings relief for fibromyalgia and also osteoarthritis. Furthermore, individuals suffering from scleroderma ( a disease related to the build-up of collagen on the skin and other organs ) can also benefit from paraffin wax treatment. It also aids the cleansing and detoxification process of the skin and is invaluable in the cure of cellulite.
Our Paraffin Wax Treatment
A beauty & healing therapy for your hands
At Karma House, our exceptional paraffin wax hand spa treatment is a completely relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Your hands will be dipped in our premium wax which is infused with essential oils. You can choose from the Peach Kernel oil, which is rich in vitamins A and E and polyunsaturated fatty acids hence it has high antioxidant and preservative properties or Lavender essential oil with it's ability to eliminate nervous tension and relieve pain along with it's disinfectant and cleansing properties.
Our hand treatment will increase the blood flow to your hands, not only relaxing and soothing your muscles bringing some pain relief, but also assists your body in the delivery of the required nutrients and cleansing functions for optimal benefits to you. The heat from the wax will not only penetrate your joints providing relief from aches and pains but will also open up the pores of your skin allowing dirt, toxins and waste products to be eliminated. The process also softens your hands and nails and is ideal prior to having a manicure. After only one session, paraffin has been known to significantly increase your skin's elasticity and improve skin hydration in your hands. We allow 15-20 mins cooling time to let the wax harden properly causing a compressive effect which helps reduce swelling, and squeezes the dermal layers forcing the toxins and excess blood out of the area. This also helps stretch your skin and smooths out wrinkles leaving your hands feeling rejuvenated, smooth and soft for up to a week or more after treatment.
