Jessica Simpson is redefining herself amidst cheating speculations
Jessica Simpson’s separation from Eric Johnson came after a decade together, three kids, and, if her latest lyrics are anything to go by, some serious betrayal. In her song “Leave” from the “Nashville Canyon: Part 1 EP,” some lyrics seem to suggest infidelity: “What we had was magic/Now you’ve made it tragic,” she sings. “Your weakness made me lonely/Unholy matrimony/Did you do to her what you did to me?/Was she on her knees?” Oof.
She closes the track with a gut-punch: “I don’t even want to breathe the air you breathe/I’d rather die/Than let you be inside me with her on your mind.” The song isn’t the only clue. Back in November, an Instagram post hinted that our love coach was right about the red flags in Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s relationship: “This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve,” the pop star wrote. And as icing on the cake, some other tracks in the EP were “Use My Heart Against Me” and “Blame.” If the speculation is true, we’re just glad she’s channeling it into creative power and hair dye, not self-blame. It’s never easy to navigate feelings about being cheated on, but Simpson seems to be coming out on the other side (with a fresh ‘do to boot).
