3 Eyebrow Styles That Can Make You Look Younger, According to Our Makeup Expert

Straight brows make you look more angelic

Straight eyebrows with very minimal or no arch have been all the rage in East Asia, particularly South Korea, for decades. This style is believed to look the most natural and youthful, as many folks are born with straight brows. Over time, many have shaped them to have arches, as a slight peak does make your face appear lifted. But if you want to go for a more innocent look, try straight eyebrows. This style is actually becoming a huge trend, with celebs like Ariana Grande and Zoë Kravitz ditching arches for straighter brows.

To give yourself naturally straight brows, you can carefully tweeze right above your natural arch to make a more horizontal line. Try to refrain from plucking the hairs along the bottom unless you have some strays. If you need to fill them in, begin from the inner area and draw the line a bit higher than you normally would so that it doesn’t start at a downward slant. Keep making small strokes along the top, being sure to keep the line straight. Next, do the same for the bottom part until you reach the ends, which can curve down slightly. Finally, master the fluffy-brow trend by giving your eyebrows a good brush to blend everything seamlessly.

A lift at the ends of your brows will give you a snatched look

One of the most common eyebrow mistakes that can really age you is having the tails slope down too much. The ends should never be lower than the front of the brows or it’ll just drag your features down and make you look older. Many eyebrows naturally slope downwards at the outer edges, but angling them slightly higher can give you an instant face lift. To achieve this, fill in your brows as usual, and once you get to the ends, draw them so that they’re pointing toward your temples instead of the tops of your cheekbones. You’ll immediately see a huge difference, and your face will appear years younger.

Another mistake you should avoid is making the ends much longer than they need to be. This will also age your face and, frankly, looks much too unnatural. Instead, stop just at the outer corners of your eyes. If you need some guidance, place the handle of a thin brush on the outside of your nose and angle it toward the ends of your eyes. That’s ideally where your brows should stop — any longer and your features will look off.

A rounded brow arch looks more youthful than a pointy one

While straight brows are considered youthful-looking, a subtle arch is great for pulling your features upward. As we age, we all want to look more lifted, and shaping your eyebrows with a peak can create the illusion of a tighter face. However, the one thing you never want is arches that are too pointy or high. This will make your features look overly harsh, and you’ll only appear angry. A natural curve is much more optimal in giving you that wide-eyed, fresh look.

We’ve determined that pointy brows are a no-no, but overly round ones are also just as aging, especially if they’re thin. To get that perfect peak, angle the front part slightly upward until you reach the outer edges of your pupil and then gradually bring the brows down. Fill in any sparse areas with a pencil or brow powder, and give them a good swipe with a brow gel to thicken them up even more. To highlight your arch, add a bit of shimmery powder to your brow bone for that extra-youthful glow.
