Video: Jamie’s Eyebrow Piercing – Up Close and Personal
Your eyes the most expressive part of your face, and they are said to be the window to the soul. A powerful and beautiful way to emphasize your eyes is with a brand new eyebrow piercing. Eyebrow piercings are not just for punks with safety pins anymore! They can be elegant and professional or fun and flirty with the proper jewelry. This common facial piercing is usually done vertically through the eyebrow. People are pierced anywhere along the eyebrow (from directly above the eye to the edge of the eyebrow).
Watch as Jamie gets her eyebrow pierced by James at American Skin Art in Buffalo NY. She did not even flinch as the needle went through her flesh. The actual needle insertion is at around 50 seconds in the video. It was her second time being pierced and she mentioned that this one hurt even less than before. When she was done it looked like the piercing had always been there, and that is the best feeling in the world.
Most people find this piercing to be almost painless if done properly by a professional piercer. The area is clamped, pierced with a 16 gauge hollow needle, and then the new jewelry is inserted. The piercing is usually done from underneath the eyebrow and comes out through the flesh just above the brow bone. Initial jewelry can be a ring or curved bar. It is very important not to wear jewelry that is too heavy, if the jewelry is too heavy it can cause rejection. Risks include snagging on clothing or getting sweat or makeup in the piercing. It is very important to follow your piercer’s cleaning guidelines to keep your piercing healthy. Healing time is approximately 6-8 weeks with proper care and cleaning.
For the day of the piercing it is important to wear the proper clothing, do not wear things that you have to pull over your head. It is best to avoid anything that could potentially catch on your brand new jewelry. Keep your hair off of your face and do not wear any makeup in the area of the piercing. During the piercing process you must try to relax and stay calm. Because it is so close to your eyes it is best to keep your eyes closed. (Watching may cause you to wince involuntarily). As with any piercing or tattoo, it is important to stay still.
There are so many types of eyebrow jewelry to choose from: ball captive rings, horseshoes, curved barbells, and straight barbells are the most common. Small curved barbells in surgical steel with cubic zirconia gems or Swarovski crystals are very elegant. These can be worn for many occasions, such as weddings and school dances. Double gem and ferido crystal ball styles are the most popular. Top down multi-gem eyebrow rings add even more bling and excitement to your piercing. Bright colored anodized titanium looks fantastic in eyebrow piercings as well. Curved barbells with spikes, balls, and 3D designs are all very popular. Owls, brass knuckles, cupcakes, and diamond shapes are fun and youthful. Dangle eyebrow jewelry is a newer style that is also a very popular way to add flair to your piercing. BCRs and horseshoes look classic in an eyebrow piercing. I love multiple eyebrow piercings with basic steel or colored titanium bcrs. There really is no limit to what you can wear in your eyebrow piercing, and that is what makes it fantastic.
