The Most Unconventional Outfits at the 2025 Met Gala

Lorde’s slinky silver design at the 2025 Met Gala had us asking, ‘What was that?’

Lorde isn’t one for sticking to conventions, so we were surprised to see the “Royals” singer’s ‘fit at the 2025 Met Gala. Opting for a shimmery, gunmetal-gray three-piece skirt suit, Lorde at least attempted to pay tribute to the gala’s theme, but the look was simply so boring. And much to our chagrin, she didn’t feel like sporting the suit coat throughout the evening. Though we’ll give her an A for effort, we ultimately had to hand Lorde an L for her crop-top look.

Maya Hawke’s muted gown missed the mark at the 2025 Met Gala

Though Maya Hawke radiated positive vibes at the 2025 Met Gala, her baby-pink dress didn’t exactly align with the evening’s dress code. Between Hawke’s gauzy cape, cotton-candy-colored gown, and matching evening bag, little — if anything — seemed to be menswear-inspired. Furthermore, Hawke’s effortlessly tousled updo (aka the “London hair” trend), however cute, felt a touch too casual against the rest of her look’s flouncy design details.

Heidi Klum hardly held our interest with her basic black dress at the 2025 Met Gala

Supermodel Heidi Klum is renowned for her quick wit and sharp sense of style — yet the latter was barely on display at the 2025 Met Gala. Opting for a sleeveless black gown with a trailing hem, Klum looked as lovely as ever, but her overall look bored us to pieces. Considering Klum’s commitment to over-the-top fashion, we could hardly believe the “Project Runway” star chose such a basic little black dress for the biggest fashion night of the year.

Vera Wang’s feathered hem at the 2025 Met Gala was for the birds

Even fashion designers have their off days, as evidenced by Vera Wang’s getup at the 2025 Met Gala. Sporting a full, feathery skirt beneath a white, ruched bodice, Wang decided to wear her sunglasses at night for the annual Costume Institute affair. We’re not entirely sure what prompted Wang’s decision to wear this bizarre V-neck gown, but we’re glad that she did. If nothing else, it made us feel better about our own fashion faux pas over the years.

Aimee Lou Wood’s asymmetrical look let her down at the 2025 Met Gala

While we have to give her props for partially understanding the assignment, “The White Lotus” star Aimee Lou Wood didn’t quite pull off this menswear-inspired design. From the floral-tufted footwear to the inexplicable satin sash, Wood’s odd assortment of pieces was all over the place. If that weren’t enough, we weren’t sold on the star’s hairstyle, either. The loose strand of escaped fringe was the cherry on top of this chaotic Met Gala look, landing Wood squarely on Glam’s worst-dressed roundup.

Sydney Sweeney looked stunning but failed to stay on-theme at the 2025 Met Gala

As much as we all enjoyed her Josephine Baker-inspired edges, “Euphoria” beauty Sydney Sweeney wasn’t quite as successful with the rest of her 2025 Met Gala look. Her glittery black gown, complete with a cinched waist and peekaboo details, was nothing short of breathtaking. Still, her outfit simply didn’t do the night’s theme much justice. On a lighter note, Sweeney’s updated spin on the ’60s, sharp-lined makeup trend and sparkling accessories had us totally captivated, though they couldn’t spare her from the worst-dressed list.

Sabrina Carpenter’s maroon style at the 2025 Met Gala seemed awfully familiar

It may be impeccably tailored, but this is one Sabrina Carpenter look we’ve seen time and time again. Apart from the cropped jacket and slightly darker hue, the one-piece style is ubiquitous in Carpenter’s wardrobe, from her “Nonsense Christmas” special to her regular stage attire. We would have loved some deviation from the norm for the singer’s 2025 Met Gala look, but there’s always 2026 to look forward to.

Miley Cyrus lost us with her mismatched black look at the 2025 Met Gala

While Miley Cyrus has done her share of serving on red carpets, her 2025 Met Gala ensemble wasn’t her finest. With textured black leather up top and a puffy, floor-length skirt below, the confusing combination of textures and styles left us mystified. Yes, it glossed over the theme, but more importantly, it hardly made sense. The choice to sport a slicked-back bun put all the focus back on Cyrus’ unfortunate outfit, relegating the “Flowers” singer to Glam’s worst-dressed list.

Shakira’s puffy pink gown for the 2025 Met Gala was a wicked choice

Taking notes from Ariana Grande’s outfits that didn’t work, Shakira turned up to the 2025 Met Gala decked out in her best bubblegum-pink finery. Perhaps she heard “Glinda,” not gala? We can appreciate the aesthetics of this voluminous, 1980s-inspired vision, but its feminine flourishes were decidedly off-theme for the event. In the end, Shakira’s perfect, bouncy curls and sweeping train felt more “Barbie” press tour photo-op than Met Gala gathering.

Hailey Bieber’s basic blazer for the 2025 Met Gala felt uninspired

Despite her polished appearance, Hailey Bieber, who has had a stunning style transformation, still managed to make the worst-dressed list at the 2025 Met Gala. It’s clear that Bieber listened closely to the invite’s call for menswear-inspired fashion, but this basic black blazer is barely distinguishable from the Rhode founder’s everyday attire. By choosing such a simple piece, Bieber rested on her laurels instead of making a splash. Hey, it may not be one of the worst outfits in Met Gala history, but we hope to see something more exciting from Bieber at next year’s gathering.
