Short Hair Trends for 2025: One Bob Style Misses the Mark

Soft and versatile is the name of the game

The asymmetrical bob was a popular ’80s style that saw a resurgence in the ’00s thanks to stars like Victoria Beckham. But the choppy layers just “feel passé,” explains Edson Ibarra exclusively to Women. “These looks too often feel much too structured and are without the effortless elegance that has come to define today’s trends in beauty.” In 2025, styling is focused on subtle choices that can be worn in a variety of ways, so you get the most bang for your buck.

Instead of asymmetry, opt for a more low-maintenance cut that can be styled in different ways and still be flattering. “Add plenty of volume so it moves and bounces and can be flicked from side to side,” suggested TONI&GUY global creative director Sam McKnight for Who What Wear. If you want the drama of a drastic change, consider a softly textured pixie cut instead. Or go for the micro bob, which ends along the jawline and features a crisp finish, if you’re looking for an updated style that still makes a bold statement.
