Ivanka Trump’s noughties Met Gala looks kept missing the mark
After her Met Gala debut in 2004, Ivanka Trump attended the Met Gala every year until 2016. Unfortunately, the look she wore her second time around might be even worse than the first. The theme of the 2005 Met Gala was “The House of Chanel,” and while Ivanka Trump tends to favor outfits with a special meaning, this one left us completely confused. For the event, Ivanka donned a monochrome look with yet another asymmetrical silhouette. By now, we’ve learned that asymmetrical frocks don’t work for the first daughter, particularly at the Met.
The black gown’s skirt was riddled with ruffles, with the asymmetrical hem giving it a tattered and shredded texture. She accessorized with an infinite scarf with the same material (mind you, it was a spaghetti-strap gown. Whether she was hot or cold at the event, we’ll never know) and peep-toe pumps. Perhaps the most jarring aspect of the look, though, was the blunt blond bob she debuted. Rather than “House of Chanel,” all Ivanka Trump gave us was an outfit that didn’t impress.
If you hadn’t already guessed, Ivanka’s dress for the 2006 event was yet another lackluster one. The theme was “Anglomania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion,” which led Ivanka to a chocolate-brown chiffon gown with a plunging neckline and a satin bow at the waist. She paired the look with a cream clutch and flat, strappy sandals. No wonder she hasn’t been invited back since 2016.
