Too much black
While you don’t need to wear exuberant colors like neon green or pastel pink, you also don’t have to stick to just wearing all black. While black may have a slimming effect, wearing too much of it can wash you out and make you look more exhausted and aged. Wearing black in close proximity to the face can also accentuate wrinkles and emphasize the dark shadows under the chin and eyes. This is why many stylish mature women will wear an all-black ensemble with a v-neck or a different-colored top. It’s okay to have a lot of black in your closet, especially when it comes to basics for a capsule wardrobe. However, it’s a good idea to pair your favorite black pieces with some color and prints to breathe life into the overall look.
Oversized and baggy looks
Oversized looks are still very much trending, but not in every aspect of fashion. While the perfect oversized yet structured blazer will give your outfit a modern touch, an oversized tunic paired with gaucho pants won’t be doing you any favors. It’ll make you lose your shape entirely, which can make you look frumpy and instantly age you. You can still go for that oversized, baggy look, but do it right. Pair the baggy dad jeans you’ve wanted to try with a more fitted top and throw on some New Balance sneakers for that perfect casual day-to-day look. Need ideas? Wearing jersey fabric
The right fabric can take your look to the next level, but wearing the wrong ones can make you look messy and rugged. Jersey fabric just might be one of the most avoided fabrics by women and stylists. As lightweight as it is, anything jersey will wrinkle and stretch easily, and can shrink when washed. The worst part? A Redditor was adamant that one of the fabrics they never wore was jersey as it would give “lumps and bumps [they] don’t have on top of [their] usual ones [they’re] already insecure about.” Jersey fabric also tends to make an outfit look less polished. Opt for ribbed knits or a linen dress like Mialeigh Elbow Sleeve Dress from Lilly Pulitzer.
Hiding your neck at all costs
As mentioned above, wanting to look more youthful is totally fine, but don’t be ashamed of the way your body shows how you’ve gracefully aged over the years. We’re talking to all of you who never dare to show your neck. Instead of the high necklines that are your usual go-to, go for the scoop neck or v-neck top and accessorize with your favorite statement necklace as these can divert the attention to the collarbone and below. If you really don’t feel comfortable showing the neck, you can always throw on a fun silk scarf.
Wearing glasses that age the face
Glasses are very much a part of your overall look. Whether it’s just sunglasses or prescription wear, it’s worth taking the time to explore and find the ones that suit your features best. Don’t just go for the big framed glasses in hopes they’ll hide your bags and wrinkles. This can backfire and bring more attention to them. And when it comes to sunglasses, you don’t always have to pick the big black ones that overshadow half of your face. Try something fun! It’ll be a vibrant touch to your outfit and make you look more youthful like the Retro ’90s Vibe Rectangle Sunglasses from BUTABY.
