The Most Questionable Fashion Choices at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival

Isabelle Huppert’s backwards Canadian tuxedo was bizarre

Denim-on-denim has come a long way since the early aughts, but Isabelle Huppert’s take on it during the 2025 Cannes Film Festival had us thinking she got dressed in the dark. The French actor’s Balenciaga jacket was worn backwards with the arms tied behind her waist. She paired it with a matching floor-length skirt that was thankfully worn the right way, but instead of looking avant-garde, the effect was just a sloppy mess.

Emma Stone forgot to leave her bib at home

There’s no food served at the Cannes Film Festival, which is just one reason why Emma Stone’s bib dress was confusing. Her white Louis Vuitton gown featured large, rounded collars in the front and back that made it look like she was getting ready to chow down on some lobster. Perhaps the bee that attacked Stone that night thought she was a flower petal and wanted a tasty sip of nectar, but instead got shooed away by several waving hands. Whatever look the “Eddington” star was going for, it sure wasn’t buzzworthy.

Spike Lee took his love of the Knicks too far

Is it the case of the incredible shrinking man? Spike Lee looked like a toddler trying on an oversized suit while promoting his film “Highest 2 Lowest” at the Cannes Film Festival. Wearing a bright orange jacket with blue stripes that fell down to his knees, he looked like he was barely out of his “School Daze.” With the matching pants, Lee resembled a giant New York Knicks souvenir, but at least he was dedicated enough to his look to wear orange and blue glasses as well.

Zoe Saldana gave the bare minimum with her boring black dress

Little black dresses are great for any occasion, but Zoe Saldana (who still turns heads going makeup free) could have stepped it up a bit more. Her slinky Saint Laurent satin tank dress had no embellishments at all, and the simple silhouette was just too basic. Satin is notoriously difficult to wear as it wrinkles easily, and the fact that Saldana’s dress was so plain made the creases much more obvious. Her black leather jacket, casually slung low around her arms, was an interesting choice, but overall, this look was a yawn.

Halle Berry channeled Beetlejuice in her striped dress

Halle Berry is one older celeb whose style gets better with age, and she usually slays the red carpet with her glamorous gowns. However, her dress choice at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival just missed the mark while she tried to adhere to the festival’s rules. Instead of her usual form-fitting dresses, Berry opted for a loose Jacquemus frock with black and white stripes that resembled Beetlejuice’s suit. The shapeless silhouette hung from the “Catwoman” star’s neck all the way down to her feet in a tent-like fashion, and sadly, it just did not scream high-fashion.

Juliette Binoche should have swapped her ringer T-shirt for something chicer

While Juliette Binoche’s embroidered Prada jacket and maxi skirt combo was perfectly acceptable for the Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony on May 24, we wish she had chosen anything other than the ’70s-inspired white ringer tee with a red collar to finish the outfit. Binoche may have wanted to go with a sporty look, but a slinky black tank or a studded bra top would have looked so much more chic. The “Chocolat” star could have closed the festival with a bang, but ended up walking the red carpet in an unforgettable ‘fit.
