Her VH1 Big In ’03 look was seriously confused
In 2003, Beyoncé was on the rise and discovering her style — but her confused VH1 Big In ’03 look confirmed she hadn’t found it yet. She paired a delicate, floral, pink corset featuring a brown fur, off-the-shoulder trim with a satin, khaki skirt that dragged along the floor. She also accessorized with a stack of silver bangles. Not only did the colors clash, the skirt was particularly unflattering. It appeared restricting around her hips and was too long, which likely made it hard for the star to shuffle along the blue carpet.
The wrong bra ruined her 2002 Grammys look
Destiny’s Child may have been crowned winners at the 2002 Grammys, but Beyoncé’s dress unfortunately wasn’t a hit of the night. She wore a dress that was see-through, one-shoulder, and had long-sleeves with extra flowy material on her bottom half and around her waist. But the “Crazy In Love” hitmaker showed us how much undergarments can make a difference, as the execution of her see-through look was ruined by the wrong color, strapless bra. It was too light, so drew unwanted attention to her chest. A lining customised to her skin tone or a bra in a slightly darker shade would have allowed her skin to blend far better with the daring gown.
Beyoncé dressed too casually for the red carpet in 2001
Beyoncé attended the 2001 Teen Choice Awards with her sister Solange Knowles in an oversized, bright yellow, sheer, lace, one-shoulder poncho with a matching bra underneath. She added skin-tight, denim shorts (which appeared to be a size too small) and strappy, yellow heels, but even they weren’t enough to dress up the look. The ensemble felt too informal, even for a less stuffy event like the Teen Choice Awards. The faux flower in her hair felt a little juvenile, too, and wasn’t in keeping with the star’s usually more chic style. This outfit would have better suited a day at the beach than an award show.
Her 2007 camo dress wasn’t flattering
We know from Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” music video that Beyoncé loves camo, but she took things too far during a 2007 appearance on “TRL.” Though her hair and makeup were stunning, she was let down by her shimmery, metallic, camo-print mini dress with a full zipper and green bands around her elbows and hips. It also featured an odd double pocket over her middle. The dress was less fitted around her hips and created a balloon skirt-esque effect, which wasn’t flattering. She paired it with sparkly, peep-toe heels, but the whole look felt tacky and was a confusing choice for someone who was such a huge star at the time.
Beyoncé drew the short straw with her all-white look
In 2002, Destiny’s Child ignored the no white after Labor day rule and stepped out in head-to-toe white ensembles — but Beyoncé’s was by far the worst. She seemingly draw the short straw with her overly froufrou white look, which included a sheer sleeve blouse with oversized frills over her torso and wrists, a lightly patterned midi skirt, and brown heels. But it was her matching beret that pushed the ensemble over the edge, making it look like a costume. The outfit was busy and frumpy, particularly compared to Kelly Rowland (who Beyoncé’s matched outfits with multiple times) and Michelle Williams’, which were more fashion-forward, modern, and better tailored.
